how to change the author’s name for your posts

In response to a question asked by Jennifer, here is how to change the author’s name that is displayed for your WordPress posts…

The question (edited):

How do I make my WordPress posts just say “Posted by AnyNameIChoose” instead of “Posted by Admin”?

The How-To:

  1. Log In to your WordPress Dashboard.
    Dashboard label
  2. Click “Users” in the left-side navigation bar.
    Users label
  3. Click on your Username (whatever it is).
    Username label
  4. On the Edit User page,
    Edit User label
  5. find where it says “Nickname”
    Nickname label
and, in the text box, give yourself a nickname (whatever name you want to appear by your posts).
  6. Where it says “Display name publicly as”,
    Display name publicly as label
  7. click the drop-down arrow and select the nickname you entered.
Display name publicly as (revised) label
  8. Click Update User at the bottom of the page.
    Update User button label

Note 1: If you don’t see your new nickname in the list, click Update User to refresh the page after you’ve entered your new nickname and then try selecting your new nickname from the list again. (For newer versions of WordPress, this shouldn’t be a problem.)

Note 2: For a wordpress.com hosted account, you may not see the “Nickname” option. Just type your desired nickname in the box labeled, “Display name publicly as” and then click “Update Profile”.

‘Til next time, Press On!
