5 reasons to start using WordPress today!

Of course, there are many, many reasons why you should be a “WordPresser” by now, but I just picked five that came to mind. Maybe I’ll lengthen this list after reading the suggestions that I know will appear in the comments…

reason #1
Express yourself and make greater use of your expertise.

There is one thing about you of which I am sure: you are the greatest expert on Earth on the subject of you. Your story is totally unique and, sadly, it will be lost to the world when you pass away… unless you record it. I’m confident that when you string together the major events of your life, you’ll find that the drama of your life is more compelling than most of the stuff Hollywood puts out.

I can’t stress strongly enough how important I believe it is for your family, friends, and community not to lose your story. Much can be learned from getting to know the stories that are in our environment – stories that we are oblivious to. And as of this day, there is no better way to share your story and your expertise than through the Web. Video, audio, text, and pictures — you can combine all of these forms as you express your message. WordPress makes it easy.

reason #2
Share with a community that enjoys what you enjoy.

Once you get started and people start to visit your site, those that like the messages you’re communicating will become regular “audience members” — just like people subscribe to magazines & newspapers, make time to watch their favorite shows on TV, and have favorite radio stations, they will put your site on their “to do” list. Even better than that is they will be notified any time you add something to your site. This means they don’t have to come looking for new stuff because it’s delivered to them! Instantly!

The result is that a small community will develop and leave comments for you – telling you what they like and dislike, giving you tips for how you can further develop your site, sharing other stuff on the Web that you’d probably like to see… and that community will be YOUR community of like-minded individuals. Isn’t life more fun when you’re in touch with people who like what you like? It’s a piece of cake with WordPress.

reason #3
Become active in a cause that really hits home with you.

Beyond telling your story and building a community that shares your interest(s), you can get involved in those issues that are important to you. Politics, fashion, current events, world hunger, global warming, personal finances, or religion — it really doesn’t matter what “floats your boat”. You can create a site — inexpensively — that will let you add your support to the movement that represents your position on the issue.

I am an activist. It is rather elementary: nothing happens until someone takes action. So, I encourage you to become active, an “activist”, whatever it is you’re passionate about. WordPress is simply the best tool for the job.

reason #4
Expand your skill set.

Now why would you want to do that? Because there’s a thing called stagnation and the less effort you make to further your education, the more intimately acquainted you will become with Mr. Stagnation. Just from a career standpoint, with the economy looking [you can fill in your own expletive], having this unique and valuable computer skill will increase your worth.

Where do you work? How’s your company’s Web site looking? Could it use some pizzazz? Does your company even have a site? Hundreds of billions of dollars worth of business takes place every year on the Internet. If your company isn’t making the most of this marketplace, you have a potential opportunity. And how many businesses do you think you can find, right around where you live, that haven’t intelligently tapped into the power of the Internet yet? Do I even need to say it? WordPress takes the pain out of the process.

reason #5
Put MONEY in your pocket.

Now this is the end game. If you handle the setup process and follow through properly, you will have a community of cyber-friends. These friends know how you think, what you think, and more… and they still like you! When you find (or create) a product that you like, the odds are good that many of them will like it, too. Now suppose you made a deal with the business to pay you a referral fee for every sale you bring their way? How profitable could that be if you made two or three such recommendations — of products and services that you like and use — every month to several thousand friends and a hundred or two make purchases based on your referral?

I’ve read a description of business that goes something like this: create a pool of prospects and work to expand it, sell them something (those who purchase are no longer prospects but customers), and then resell to your customers — working to increase the size and the frequency of their orders.

With WordPress, you will create a large pool of cyber-friends. After you’ve established the genuine nature of the relationships, you will then offer them things that you’ve found worthwhile. They can take you up on the offer or not — and you can go on being friends. Can you tell that I love this business? Have I told you that I love WordPress?

BONUS reason #6
WordPress is Twitter’s Pal!

Many tools have been developed to allow for integrating Twitter into WordPress and many continue to be developed. If you haven’t caught on to Twitter, you need to investigate the phenomenon because that’s where the hottest action is. Twitter is simply the most useful tool for attracting people — who think like you do — to your site. You can easily develop a group of friends to share life’s big moments with and, down the road, you will put word-of-mouth marketing (the best kind) into play.

The only real question with word-of-mouth marketing is whether you’ll do it for free or be compensated for your endorsement. Think about that the next time you recommend a business or a product to a friend.

Let’s focus. WordPress helps you create a community and a place to make your endorsements. Twitter helps you to build that community and interact with them. Your endorsements are genuine and are valuable to the members of your community. Many will also buy what you’ve bought and been impressed with. You have an opportunity to be compensated for the role you played in creating sales. This whole process is an example of how you can use the Internet and today’s tools to become a target marketing professional!

Think of Twitter as a place (like a sports arena or a concert hall) full of people who have come together to share in the same activity and your WordPress site as the lounge area and concession stands. Can you imagine such a place without vendors providing for the needs of the “guests”?

Neither should you imagine your WordPress “hangout” without something being offered to your visitors that they will find useful and then thank you for providing.

  • Mr. WordPres$uccess says:

I suspect that this comment by Payton is bogus. It included a link to a vacant Web site and the emoticon means nothing as far as I can tell. I did a search and found similar comments by a Payton Butler from a couple of months ago here and here and here and here. This one actually links to a Web site that has something to see as does this one and this one. Similar jumbled emoticon and linking to a different Web site every time — often to a vacant Web site.

I could have gone on all night looking at these search results. It could be some coder’s attempt to see how many sites he/she could have his bot hit with comments that somewhat relate to the subject of the post. Still, just in case Mr. Payton is a real person, I’m going to leave the comment alone. Oh, and I’ll soon have captcha installed. That should give the bot a little bigger challenge.
